Character Design Finals

Finally, after working on this animation pitch packet for quite a while. Here it is, just in time for the deadline. I do apologize in advance though because parts of it are a little rushed due to the time limit but its all here nonetheless. Enjoy!

Character Designs

So I've been redoing some character designs for finals and spoke to artist Isaac Orloff. My professors have told me this before but I guess I figured if I did this for only part of it I'd be fine. Bad idea. Reference people. I experimented and am putting up before and after pictures. Before are the designs with some reference and the after are the designs with ALL reference. Note and be amazed. I will be doing nothing but reference from now on. But its funny about how many people who think that reference isn't that important. So many people think that they can get away with just a few references. But think of it this way: the likeness comes from what the subject looks like, not what you think it looks like. Notice how much more life is in the designs with reference than the ones that aren't. I'm glad I learned this before submitting my portfolio for internships. It helped a lot. Keep in mind I'm still finishing these, I just wanted to put these up. Also, from now on I'm going to update this blog as much as I can. It will contain notes, sketches and art pieces I have done. Its an easier resource for me to get to and hopefully what I learn from others will help anyone who reads this.:) Also check out Isaac's blog if you get the chance: http://orloffillustration.blogspot.com/. Finals

So finals are upon us and I have already motivated myself by ordering Pokemon Black as a reward for when I finish. The animated series is yet to have a consistent style, so I'm uploading 3 of my Digital Coloring final pieces. The colors are mine, but the art is from Cyril Pedrosa's amazing graphic novel, " Three Shadows". Let me know what you think.:)

Animated Show

So I'm working on an animated show idea for my portfolio based on the Brothers Grimm movie. I am actually quite excited about this project and hopefully it goes as planned in my head. It will have a dark look to it, like Tim Burton meets Scooby Doo meets the Golden Age of Illustration. Sketches will be up soon. Also, the book is written and is over 200 pages, but I'm still trying to get the right style to it. Something is missing on it and I'm not sure what. Until then, watch the Brothers Grimm. Its a good movie, but it flopped. I'm in love with it though for the over-the-top feel and the amount of imagination put into it. It also stars Matt Damon and Heath Ledger and is quite entertaining. I have a tumblr!

So out of sheer procrastination, I finally have a tumblr. I have been resisting for a while, but I think it will be a good way to permanently keep my artist block away if I have a website full of things that inspire and entertain me. I hope you like it! Follow me at rosered91.tumblr.com

Scatterbrained

Hey internets,
  So this quarter has been the quarter where my scatterbrained-ness has taken over. Probably because of the college fun I've been having, but now I'm back to work. I've been inching away at the artwork for my book and new character designs and pages are being penciled by moi in between the facebooking and other crazy aspects of homework I've had. Here are a few things I've done this quarter and I'm going to try and update this more often, like I tell myself each and every time.lol. I'm also thinking of getting a blog or a tumblr just for my book, but not sure yet. Until next time, lets just assume I'm doing work.lol.
