Winter Break

So winter break has been nice, relaxing with my boyfriend and my family and getting my sleep back. Last time I do four classes, that was insane! Anyways, I decided I'd visit the blog that I have had no time to go on and update the few followers I do have. I am now in Southern California, hiding away and working on my graphic novel. I am going to try and finish this by the end of the year. Also, I am now entering junior year, so this should be great. I am going to be studying in France during spring quarter, so any good french references anyone can suggest would be great. Thats all for now. To keep up with me more, visit my site, www.rosered.biz. Have a good one!

UPDATES!!!!!!

So So I have been absolutely horrible about updating this. Classes have been crazy! But I got a kitten! His name is Simba and he's freakin adorable and crazy at the same time. My comic classes have been going great, we've had guests like Eric Canete, Tommy Castillo among many others. I'm hoping for a bed after break and maybe a few dishes and a pot to cook in(I'm kinda a bit on the poor side right now.lol.), but other than that, things are awesome. I'm gonna try to be good about updating this in the future, but no promises for the next two weeks since there are finals and I have to send my graphic novel synopsis and artwork out to publishers. But I will keep in touch!

New Art/News:)

So I finished designing my business cards! So here's a pic of them. Also, I just bought my own domain, it is:www.rosered.biz. Soooooo excited! Things are starting to fall into place. I've also started scripting my graphic novel that I'm writing/illustrating. Its basically a damsel in distress story, except it has a huge twist: the damsel isn't the one distressing....the villain better watch out in this one. Maybe later, I'll upload tidbits, except I'm pretty sure my boyfriend and I are the only ones who actually read this blog.lol. Anyways, stay tuned, I'll be sure to update this more often(where have we heard that before.lol.).TTFN, ta ta for now.

Its been a little while

I'm sorry I havent been posting in a while, so I'll update a few swap pics on here. I'm currently working on illustrating a childrens book and writing my own graphic novel. So I've been a little busy. Plus yesterday, on my way back from work I got hit by a van while coming back from work, which is why I have time to update this blog.lol. I'm fine. I just have a lot of scars, bruises and abrasions. Two of the bones that connect my ribs to my spine are cracked, but not displaced, so they'll mend themselves in a few weeks. It was a hit and run, so I cant sue that jerk, but I took pics, so if they find him, thats what I'm gonna do. Anyways, like I said, I'm fine just medicated and shooken up. Here are some of the swap photos though.

Moved In

So last week I visited my wonderful boyfriend in Valencia, CA and stayed with him for a few days and moved back here to Savannah, so my blog has been kinda abandoned while I was moving back. But now I'm situated in my temporary home for the next month before the dorms and I will start making art once again!:)

Hectic Past 2 days

Not a good couple of days, pretty horrible actually. I hope things start to look up soon. But here is the first page or two of my new art journal and a piece I did about James and the Giant peach about where I escape to. The quote on it is "The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears." It is mixed media on a baby wipe.

New Pix

So yesterday, I made an ATC(artist trading card) for a swap about the first chapter of Alice in Wonderland, I just got a little lazy in using the scanner(still getting used to it) and so here it is. Today, my mother took me to the most wonderful museum exhibit ever! It was opening day of the 25 Years of Pixar exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone and everyone, it is simply wonderful. So here are also a few sketches of people on the BART.

New Projects!

So yesterday, I just finished my website, which should hopefully have its own domain soon once I'm back at work: http://www.wix.com/SarahSteele/RoseRed. I also just bought the "Artist Trading Cards Workshop" book so I used a technique from it called Intuitive Watercolor, with my own twist(my oil pastels weren't water soluble)...so here it is.:)Notice how I used a scanner!(I finally got my parents' scanner working!yay!)

Weekend

So I decided to take the weekend off to see my Aunt in the hospital, my grandma and my little cousin. I hope her migraines go away...So I'm going to put myself back on track today. And I would like to start my own art journal. My boyfriend and I have a long distance one, which is wonderful, but I would like to start one of my own now also. So hopefully I'll be pretty productive with plans for those projects as well as some good, old-fashioned Artist Trading Cards(ATCs). I picked up some books today to inspire myself and I have to say, I can't wait!

A Project a Day

So I know that I was gonna do a project a day, but today I tackled a project kinda different from mixed media, but slightly related:cooking. I've never really cooked and today was pretty much my first time and I actually love it. I made a baked rigatoni with eggplant and it was wonderful, if I dont say so myself. But to keep with my mixed media theme on here, I found a recent piece that I did to make up for today. Its called "Milestones".

Pooh Bear Inspirations

So today, I looked through my new issue of Sommerset Studios magazine and saw a project inspired by Winnie the Pooh, so I went off of that and came up with this. Sorry for the lack of scanner...

Inspired

So I just got done watching Julie & Julia and I have to say that I am impressed. I watched that movie with no expectations and it was absolutely wonderful. I have always been into mixed media and I love learning new techniques in my magazines and I was thinking...maybe I'll try them all each month and upload them or something. Who knows...it is 4:52 am here so I dont know how much I am going to stick through this, but I think its worth a shot. Maybe I'll try a technique a day or something. I've been wanting to give myself something useful to do and I do want to update this blog more so I might as well. Starting tomorrow, I think I'll try it...but I'm going into this with low expectations...cuz I'm usually more spontaneous than long term with projects like this. Who knows? Maybe it'll give my blog more exposure.Btw, no scanner is available at my house this summer, so I took a webcam pic instead...I know, unprofessional, right? But then again, I am only 18. This was a mixed media handmade postcard that I made for a swap for the anniversary of the first landing on the moon.

Summer

So not really sure what to talk about. Summer has been going pretty slow, but pretty wonderful. I now have a long-distance boyfriend who is amazing and I hope after school I can move closer to him and/or move to CalArts, which has been my dream school since fourth grade. I just got my own website off the ground and I haven't bought the domain yet, but here's the free url: http://www.wix.com/SarahSteele/RoseRed. And I also just discovered another artist's work online, whose art I really enjoy and it reminds me of my bf.http://www.azuzephre.net/azuzephre.net_-_The_Art_of_Jeff_Thomas/Pon_and_Zi.html. Also, I just got a design internship with a nonprofit this summer so at least now I can keep busy.:)

First Post, First Blog, First Lots of Things.:)

Yay! So I'm excited to finally start a blog. I guess its about time. I've been bugged a little bit about starting one and I'm excited to finally start one!:) So basically I've got one more week at school, which is why I have a little time to start this up, and then I'm headed back to California for a week! To celebrate my first entry, I am going to upload a video of one of my favorite music videos by a french singer by the name of Olivia Ruiz. Enjoy!
